Medical Marijuana November Updates

According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), as of August 31- over 800 physicians have patients to whom they prescribe medical marijuana (MMJ). Other stats report there are over 109k patients with more than 230k new applications processed for MMJ recommends.

Med weed is prescribed to patients who suffer from chronic pain suffered from or being treated for cancer, glaucoma and HIV/AIDS. Over 90 percent of MMJ is prescribed for severe pain.

Since Coloradans passed Amendment 20 in November 2000- citizens across the US have discovered its medical benefits. Today, 20 states plus DC have legalized MMJ. Illinois, Washington and Iowa have begun their own initiatives to bring its legalizing to a citizens vote- medical and recreational.

Last year, Coloradans passed Amend 64 which allows the use of marijuana legal for persons twenty-one years of age and older- and regulated and taxed similar to that of alcohol. This January 2014- sales of weed begin and medical dispensaries will be the licensed outlets used by many recreational users and analysts say they should see an increase in business.

Colorado has pioneered the country’s MMJ crusade and has paved the way for its recreational use- with a long list of doctors, finding medical alternatives doctors Colorado Springs patients and advocates trust is a last worry with Dr. Reimers who has practiced medicine for over 40 years.

But, with regulations come rules. And, for patients of MMJ, as of August 1, new forms must be completed and patients will have a 90-day grace period for those forms that may already be in process. However, the costs of administering the program remains unchanged at $35 but, the fee, of course is evaluated yearly and is subject to change.
